Just a quick recap of the Susan G. Komen 3-Day for the Cure this past weekend in Michigan.

The adventure started for us on Thursday, when we stayed at a hotel not far from the opening ceremony so that we wouldn’t have to worry about driving 45 minutes or so and getting up at 4AM.  Instead, we were up at 3:30 because we couldn’t sleep :teehee .

Day 1

We had the opening ceremony, which was great.  Everyone got together and did some stretching together, watched as some survivors where honored, and started our journey.  Our first day of walking was to be 21.2 miles, give or take.  The first 10 miles consisted of three pit stops (where we could get food, water, and porta-potties), a cheering station where hubby and Thaddeus met up with me (you can see a few pictures that were taken by Jackie, who’s daughter was walking), and the lunch station (small video of that below).  The second half of the walk consisted of two pit stops, two grab & go stations (water & potty), a cheering station, and camp.

Lunch, Day 1

Camp was very busy for me.  I had to get my tent set up, then get my tent moved to a new location, get showered, do an interview (that was never aired), eat dinner, and get to the Energizer® Tent to talk to other walkers and do my part as the Keep Going® Blogger.  I even got to meet the Energizer Bunny®.  I didn’t get much time during day 1 for anything while at camp, mainly because it was a super busy day.  You can see the full Day 1 post for full details.

Day 2

The morning came super early, people up and about and music playing by about 5AM!  I was still super tired and definitely not ready to get up yet.  I stayed in my tent until about 6 or 7AM and then got into my walking clothes and headed to breakfast.  I’m not a eater in the morning, especially first thing, so it was very hard for me to eat something before heading out for my walk, but I did.  As I mentioned in my original Day 2 post, I didn’t make it far once I started walking, I made it past the first grab & go and stopped at pit stop 1 to get some mending done.  I then took the bus to lunch.  After lunch I walked the remainder of the walk and got back to camp around 4:30PM.  Day two consisted of 21.8 miles total, the first half having one grab & go, two pit stops, one cheering station, and lunch.  The second half of the route was three pit stops, one cheering station, and camp.  The second cheering station, which was in Plymouth, was just amazing.  I wish I had taken some pictures, but I was really overwhelmed with the amount of people who showed up to show their support.  I walked most of the after lunch walk with Denise, who is from New York and was a pleasure to walk with.

I recorded two videos from day 2, one of them is of Candy Coburn performing Pink Warrior at camp and the other is of the last walking making her way into camp.  Yes, it was a celebration!

Day 2 – Last Walker to Camp

After I got back to camp, I was able to roam a little, which is why I got the video of Candy Coburn.  I also took some time to see medical about my aching leg and to get bandaged up.  It helped a little for the night, but that did not last long.

Day 3

The final day started just like day 2, everyone was up early, some so early that when I got up at 5AM to use the potty, there were already people who had taken down their tents and were all packed and ready to start the day….two hours early!  I was not so anxious, I got up around 6AM and started my day.  I got all my gear packed up, folded up my tent and brought everything where it needed to go.  I then headed to the food tent for lunch, which I was unable to eat, yet again.  You can read the best parts of the day from my day 3 post. Day 3 was the shortest of the three, however I did not walk any of it.  I was in way too much pain and didn’t want to cause any extra damage.  16.4 miles for the day, most of it being the first half of the walk which consisted of three pit stops, one cheering station, and lunch.  The second half was a grab & go, pit stop, and then holding for the closing ceremony.

As I mentioned in that post, I did not stay for the closing ceremony, I was in way too much pain to wait two and a half hours for it to start.  I wish I could have because I’ve heard from several that it was just awesome.  I also did not get any pictures during day 3, mainly because most of the time I was on the bus.
